Slimming Down

NAR’s New Look for a Leaner Future

Splits and Caps Daily: Action for Agents

March 31, 2025

📈 Market Move:

Trimming and Transforming

The National Association of Realtors (NAR) just went on a diet, cutting 61 jobs to streamline operations and cut costs after that $418M settlement. The job cuts hit nearly a dozen departments, from finance to PR, as NAR refocuses on "member value" (aka: trimming the fat).

Leadership is also getting a refresh, with new execs and promotions in key roles. CEO Nykia Wright says this is all about “putting talent in the right places” and shifting the narrative around NAR. Translation? They’re tightening up, playing defense, and trying to prove they can evolve with the market. Whether this turns into a real turnaround or just a PR facelift—time will tell.

🎉 Fun Fact of the Day:

Airbnb: White House Edition: During a 2013 budget crisis, someone joked about renting out the Lincoln Bedroom to raise cash. The government said no, but c’mon, you’d book a night.

📚 Book Recommendation:

"The Business of Expertise" by David C. Baker —Ever feel like you're grinding away in your niche but still stuck playing small? David C. Baker breaks down how to stop being just another service provider and start getting paid (really paid) for your expertise. This book is basically a cheat code for positioning yourself as the go-to authority in your space—whether you're a consultant, entrepreneur, or just someone tired of competing on price.

Baker’s whole playbook is about shifting from generalist to specialist, making yourself indispensable, and commanding higher fees without working more. It’s part strategy, part mindset shift, and all about unlocking that next level where clients chase you instead of the other way around. If you’re tired of fighting for scraps and want to build a business that runs your way, this is a must-read.

Progress is the reward for consistency—stay locked in.
